While public safety is one of the most essential services provided by city government, current leadership is not delivering at a time when District 1 neighbors are facing rising crime rates and concerns for a homeless community that has been chronically underserved. Above all, the neighbors of District 1 deserve to feel safe and secure in their neighborhoods. No family or child should be afraid to walk to their school or local library. I am committed to mitigating homelessness and better serving this community by strategically tailoring resources to the different unhoused subgroups, including veterans, domestic violence survivors, foster youth, and those with mental health issues. And I am committed to improving community safety by expanding social services for at-risk populations, expanding crime prevention initiatives, and funding community policing strategies that are proven to reduce crime and strengthen the relationships between communities and law enforcement.
